Do you love a good....no, GREAT margarita? Do you LOVE Mexican food? El Tapatio is by far the best Mexican food that I have had. I am a sucker for anything spicy or authentically Mexican and this place just puts me over the edge! The ambiance of the restaurant is that of Guadalajara! This is perfectly fitting because 90% of the workers, if not 100% are from Guadalajara! It looks like a small joint, but I have never had to wait more than two minutes for a table! This is not to say that they are not busy, because they are! Always! They just have ample seating for both indoors and outdoors! The service is quick and friendly! The servers take the time to explain anything you are confused about and if you do not see what you like on the menu, they are more than happy to accommodate you. If you do not know what the dish you like is called, you simply can explain it to them and they will know exactly what you are talking about! The food is as authentic as it comes. I am a rather petite girl, and their portions are huge! However, everything is so delicious, I never leave a morsel on my plate! The dessert is wonderful as well and they have such a unique variety! The fried ice cream is my favorite because of the tortilla dish! Give this place a shot! You will not regret it!

I've been a customer at El Tapatio for over a year now. They have excellent service, a friendly wait staff, and the food's not bad either. They have a great house margarita and the pitcher is generous for the price, easily serves 4-5 glasses worth! The decor may be a little cheesy but it's exactly what you'd expect for a good local Mexican restaurant just around the corner. Altogether a great place for Margarita Monday and some yummy Mexican food!

This place is a consistent close to home restaurant for my husband and I. We love going there and feel from the manager down to the buspeople we get great service. Try the tortilla soup or one of their delicious salads from the salad menu if you want to be healthy. I honestly have not had anything on the menu that I did not like. If you have not been you need to try it!

I've had discussions with my friends about this restaurant. They think its not the greatest, but every time I go I leave satisfied. Maybe it depends on what you order. You'll have a lot of choices either way. The service is quick and I enjoy the food a lot. Its a fairly cheap restaurant but the atmosphere makes it seem almost upscale. It is always crowded though, at least when I've gone. Parking becomes a problem. All in all, it remains some of the best Mexican you can get in southern RI as they are few and far between.

Can't say enough about our favorite neighborhood place!!! I always get the same so I can't comment on anything but...the Enchiladas Tapatio are FABULOUS. And the Sangria (ask for it extra strong if that's how you like it) is perfect!!! We always look forward to a family dinner there...and found out that our other favorite Mexican place (Acapulcos in Franklin, MA) is owned by family of the owners of Tapatio. BTW, we prefer this one to the one in Cranston...

sooooo good! We like the ambiance of this location better than the Cranston, quieter, more of a cafe feel. Now the food! Get the queso dip with your chips. Seriously, this stuff is ridiculously good - white with flecks of jalapeno (but not overly spicy, just enough). Also try the Pork el Pastor - especially if you like cilantro. Small pieces of marinated and grilled pork folded into corn tortillas with a healthy portion of fresh cilantro. I made obscene yummy sounds as I ate this dish. DH got his usual - tamale and chile relleno - very good also. Small (really small) quibbles - salsa just isn't fresh tasting to me and aside from some heat didn't have enough flavor. Chips were fried in oil that was too cold - way too much oil on the chips. And someone this visit was making a hell of a racket in the kitchen. Don't know what was going on but it was rather comical - is this the background music for today?! lol but really go! great fresh food and dang! get that queso!

Great fajita quesadilla last night at El Tapatio. Started slow without chips and salsa, but they more than made up for it by keeping our whistle wet.. Food was fresh and the staff attentive. Always enough to share a dish, or take home for a late night snack. I noticed that no is ever idle in the restaurant. They all seem to be doing a task in between waiting on the patrons. All of the wait staff seem fully responsible for the customers comfort whether it is their table or not. The outdoor patio would have been our first choice if it were not a bit damp out.

Came here after the Wickford Art Fest, largest local festival, and the service was absolutely horrible. 20 minutes for drinks, wait staff who could hardly function, food came out in three shifts. Unreal. It's not even that crowded, so there's really no excuse. Every table around us has suffered the same fate. DO NOT COME HERE.

As soon as I walked in I knew...this place is not going to be worth it. I should have trusted my gut. Being a CA native I crave a good Mexican meal. This place did not even come close. The place smelled like bleach...red flag #1. I ordered the spinach enchiladas with no onions. I ordered black bean soup and a taco for my son. Everyone else ordered some kind of fajita burrito. Lets start with my meal... She brought me spinach quesadillas smothered with onions, inside and out. First off, she didn't listen to one word I had said when I was ordering. She really got it all wrong..red flag #2. My sons black bean soup was actually a can of black beans dumped into a bowl and nuked in the microwave for 30 seconds....red flag #3. His taco was absolutely greasy and glad he didn't want to eat it. The burritos had 3 thin pieces of steak and the rest was peppers and onions. The people sitting next to us actually sent their food back....red flag #4. The only good thing was my corona.

Really good! Great margarita and delicious burritos. Not a fancy spot, but great Mexican food. My husband and I will definitely be returning!

This place is solid, but I think 4 stars is a bit much. It's a pretty standard Mexican joint. I will say they do right with the chips and salsa to start off. I usually go for the beef chimichanga, as their enchiladas and burritos have been a bit disappointing in the past. There's nothing too memorable about this stuff if you've eaten a bunch of Mexican food, other than that it's a bit greasier than normal - which I don't mind, but it does stick out. I've also been to several really similar places in Massachussets, down to the exact same taste from the food, and from the reviews of other Yelpers, it seems like this is becoming a chain of some sort (with different names for each place). I don't have anything against chain restaurants, but that's pretty much how I would describe the place - it's about on par with something like On The Border.

This restaurant is huge and festively decorated. They have Mariachi Mondays, which I have never attended, but imagine would be fun. It's definitely a family establishment, and I've never had to wait due to the large size of the place. They always bring chips and salsa to start--generally two salsas, a mild and a spicy. Service is quick, and staff is friendly. Depending on who is in the kitchen, food can either be good or average. Dishes are standard Mexican-American fare--I haven't encountered a meal that I couldn't replicate at home, but for the price, it's a nice, simple, Friday night out with the family.

Recently returned for a late spicy dinner on a Sunday night. By 830 the place was empty and we had our choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Food was really good again, service was attentive and the fried ice cream dishes....mmmmmm. I will keep coming back as this is the best Mexican food in this vicinity.

Went here last night. Even though it was still early (before 5:30), there was already a 20 minute wait, thus confirming the spot's popularity. We ended up sitting at the bar and having dinner there, which was fine with us. The staff was extremely friendly, and the food (we had the chili con queso for an appetizer, and the chicken quesadilla and some enchiladas for our entrees) arrived quickly. And it was tasty indeed, just like at their Cranston location. And it's quite inexpensive to boot! All in all, we will definitely return. I'd much rather go here than to On the Border for my Mexican food. I do wish the place was bigger, and the parking lot does leave a lot to be desired, but the alternate lots aren't too bad.

Finally! We found delicious, authentic Mexican food in Rhode Island! Woo hoo! Everything from the soup to the entrees was delicious. And the margarita was strong and well mixed. We are thrilled!

You can't beat the service in this place. We've been going here for years and it's been consistant throughout. Food and service are A+

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
